The genesis of first putting on a hearing aid stems from the aging of an elder in my family. The initial impression, a blend of novelty and singularity, was accompanied by an infinitely amplified, embodied discomfort; yet, to reconnect with the outside world, the subject had no choice but to rely on this technological intervention. As Marshall McLuhan stated in Understanding Media, “media are the extensions of man”—while the hearing aid serves as an extension of the body, its piercing electronic signals conversely reshape the very boundaries of our senses.

Taking the experience of the hearing aid as a point of departure, this work reexamines the symbiotic relationship between sound and vision. Through the real-time manipulation of digital imagery and soundscapes, it attempts to disrupt traditional mechanisms of viewing, redefining the exchange between the creator and the audience. The continuously circulating mechanical structure materializes both sound and image, allowing the self, the viewer, and the uncomfortable signals to flow within the same domain, collectively co-constructing a spatial politics of perceptual restructuring.
